Principal Transport Delivery Officer

Permanent

Grade D - £45,091 – £53,460 

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Equal Pay Programme

Working 36.5 hours per week

About the Role

We’re looking for experienced and strategic Principal Transport Delivery Officers to lead the delivery of major transport and infrastructure programmes across Birmingham.

This is a senior role within the Transport Projects team, where you’ll take ownership of complex, multi-disciplinary projects—leading them from concept through to completion. You’ll play a key role in shaping the city’s transport network, working with partners including developers, HS2, and the Combined Authority to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of complex transport projects and programmes, ensuring they meet time, cost, and quality targets
  • Oversee project planning, financial management, risk, and performance across multiple workstreams
  • Prepare and manage business cases, bids, contracts, and legal agreements
  • Provide leadership in the design, development, and implementation of schemes
  • Manage contracts, contractors, and delivery partners including developers and external bodies
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and public consultation activities
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, governance processes, and health & safety standards
  • Support and develop team members, providing technical leadership and mentoring
About You

You will be a confident leader with strong technical expertise and experience managing transport or infrastructure programmes at scale.

Essential Requirements
  • Chartered Engineer (e.g. CEng MICE) or equivalent qualification/experience
  • Significant experience leading multi-disciplinary transport or infrastructure projects
  • Strong experience managing programme delivery, cost, and risk
  • Proven ability to lead technical design development and approvals
  • Experience engaging with stakeholders, the public, and senior decision-makers
  • Knowledge and application of CDM Regulations
