We are recruiting for a Senior Inspection Officers on Fixed Term Contract (12 months) to help ensure our highway infrastructure is maintained to the highest technical, legal, and safety standards.

About the Role

As a Senior Inspection and Enforcement Officer, you will play a key role in monitoring, auditing, and verifying the performance of service providers responsible for delivering highway maintenance and related services.

Reporting to the Principal Performance Officer, you will deliver a programme of planned and ad hoc inspections, ensuring that contractual obligations are met and that all work complies with required standards, legislation, and council policies.

This is a varied and hands‑on role that directly supports the effective management of the city’s highway network.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Conduct inspections and audits to assess service provider performance against contractual, technical, and legal requirements.
  • Deliver both scheduled and ad hoc inspections, providing clear, balanced, and evidence‑based performance assessments.
  • Record all findings accurately using approved systems and equipment, ensuring full auditability.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of highway standards, legislation and relevant Council policies 
  • Work collaboratively across internal teams and with external service providers.
  • Uphold the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies in all aspects of your work.

About You

You will hold a relevant qualification of significant experience in:

  • Experience auditing or verifying service delivery (highways experience ideal)
  • Understanding of statutory highway obligations and PFI contract principles
  • LANTRA trained
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to analyse technical and performance data
  • Confident IT user
  • Commitment to excellent customer care and equality in service delivery
