Birmingham’s parks are some of the city’s most treasured assets — vibrant destinations that bring communities together, support biodiversity, improve health and wellbeing, and provide exceptional visitor experiences. 

As the UK’s first accredited Nature City, Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan, placing nature, people and place at the heart of the city’s future.

We are seeking  a dynamic Destination Parks Site Manager to help shape the future of our flagship parks and green spaces. 

This is a unique opportunity to lead the operational and strategic management of some of Birmingham’s most high-profile outdoor destinations, playing a key role in delivering nature recovery, enhancing visitor experiences and strengthening community connections.

About the Role

As a Destination Parks Site Manager, you will:

  • Develop and deliver long‑term visions and operational plans for allocated parks, aligned with city-wide priorities.
  • Lead teams to achieve excellence in visitor engagement, conservation standards, and financial sustainability.
  • Ensure parks remain safe, accessible, and welcoming through effective maintenance and compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Oversee infrastructure improvements, conservation projects, and initiatives that enhance park assets.
  • Create engaging, inclusive visitor experiences that encourage repeat visits and broaden audience reach.
  • Risk and budget management to explore opportunities for income generation, including grants and external funding.
  • Promote environmentally sustainable practices, including carbon reduction and biodiversity initiatives.

You will directly manage Destination Parks Team Leaders and play a key role in shaping the culture and performance of the wider Parks & Green Spaces service.

About You

We’re looking for individuals who can bring energy, leadership, and a deep commitment to high‑quality public spaces. You will need to demonstrate:

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant or equivalent experience in environmental management, conservation, or leisure management.
  • A proven track record of managing parks, open spaces, or similar visitor‑focused destinations.
  • Experience leading and inspiring teams, including volunteers.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and influence diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills, capable of managing complex projects and competing priorities.
  • Strong understanding of statutory requirements including Health & Safety, environmental legislation, conservation, sustainability, and operational risk.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal hours to support events or operational needs.
