Rightsizing Officer 

Permanent

Grade C - £35,412 to £44,075 per annum 

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.50 hours per week

About the Role

Birmingham City Council are seeking a proactive and community-focused Rightsizing Officer to support the effective use of housing stock across the city.

You will play a key role in delivering targeted engagement and case management approaches to enable positive housing outcomes while contributing to wider strategic objectives across the Council.

We are looking for someone with a passionate for housing, helping residents to live in long term sustainable homes and to help the organisation work towards its goals around rightsizing. 

This is an essential role in terms of making best use of Council stock, it involves co-ordinated activity directly with residents, building relationships and making transitions as smooth as they can be for residents who have long-term attachments to their homes. We are looking for a self-starter, who is resident focused can help residents through the moving process.

This is a hybrid role and on-site attendance is subject to service need.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of residents, providing tailored 1:1 support and engagement to facilitate housing moves. 
  • Develop and deliver targeted engagement plans to encourage movement within housing stock. 
  • Support residents to understand the benefits of rightsizing and available options.  
  • Process incentive payments and support packages for eligible households. 
  • Work collaboratively with operational services to maximise stock utilisation and deliver consistent approaches. 
  • Deliver workshops, drop-ins, and events to promote rightsizing opportunities. 
  • Provide performance updates and contribute to governance reporting. 
  • Build strong relationships with residents, including those requiring additional support. 
  • Contribute to project delivery, including working with external partners and supporting procurement activity. 

About You

We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate:

Experience

  • Experience engaging with residents in a social housing or community setting. 
  • Understanding of how housing services operate, including allocations and lettings. 
  • Knowledge of local government and responding to stakeholder or Member enquiries. 
  • Experience working with diverse communities and delivering against targets/KPIs. 

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline. 

Skills

  • Ability to build strong relationships across communities and services. 
  • Strong communication skills, including presenting complex information clearly. 
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver project outcomes. 
  • Experience in providing advice, reporting, and developing solutions for residents.
