Permanent 

Grade C - £35,412- £44,075 per annum 

36.5 hours per week

About the Role

We are looking to recruit a skilled Contract Works Officer to support the delivery of high-quality housing repairs, improvements, and capital works across Birmingham.

This is a key role where you will be responsible for preparing work specifications, managing contractors on-site, and ensuring works are completed to the required quality, safety, and financial standards. You will play an important part in improving housing services and enhancing customer satisfaction for tenants and residents.

Key Responsibilities

As a Contract Works Officer, you will:

  • Prepare detailed schedules of work, specifications, and scheme briefs for repair and improvement projects
  • Diagnose building faults and develop appropriate technical solutions
  • Manage and supervise contractors, ensuring quality, safety, and progress of works on site
  • Monitor contract performance, budgets, and customer satisfaction levels
  • Certify payments at all stages of works, including final completion
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations, Health & Safety standards, and Council policies
  • Investigate issues such as disrepair and support legal proceedings where required
  • Provide technical advice to internal teams, residents, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to service improvements, audits, and performance reporting
  • Build strong relationships with tenants, contractors, and partner organisations

About You

We are seeking a motivated and experienced professional who can demonstrate:

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Experience diagnosing building defects and producing schedules of work
  • Proven ability to manage contracts and contractor performance
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to produce clear and accurate technical reports and correspondence
  • Knowledge of current Building Regulations and relevant compliance standards
  • A strong commitment to delivering excellent customer service and meeting diverse needs

Qualifications & Knowledge

  • ONC/BTEC in Building Services, City & Guilds Advanced Craft (Electrical), or equivalent
  • OR substantial relevant technical experience in property repair and maintenance
  • Understanding of: 
    • Building Regulations
    • Electrical and/or Gas Safety regulations
    • Engineering service standards
    • NHF rates 
    • Knowledge of social housing and compliance. 

Additional Information

  • A full driving licence is essential as well as access to a vehicle. Although this role is based currently from our office at Stonebrook Way, it is a city-wide role.
  • Occasional out-of-hours working may be required
  • There will be lone working as part of this role
  • You will contribute to staff development, training, and continuous service improvement
