Do you have a passion for conservation, woodland management and helping nature thrive?
As the UK's first accredited Nature City, Birmingham is delivering its ambitious City of Nature 25-Year Plan and investing in the protection, restoration and enhancement of its natural environment. We are looking to recruit a Conservation and Woodland Team Operative to support the delivery of biodiversity projects, woodland management and conservation activities across the city.
Working as part of a dedicated team, you will play a vital role in protecting and enhancing Birmingham's parks, woodlands, nature reserves and open spaces. From habitat restoration and tree planting to sustainable timber production and estate management, you will help deliver practical conservation work that contributes directly to nature recovery across the city.
This is an active and varied role for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is committed to high standards of environmental stewardship. You will work closely with Rangers, volunteers, community groups and work experience placements to deliver projects that support biodiversity, improve habitats and create resilient landscapes for future generations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Helping protect, restore and enhance Birmingham's natural environment
- Delivering practical conservation, woodland management and habitat improvement projects
- Supporting biodiversity recovery through tree planting, habitat creation and nature conservation activities
- Working with Rangers, volunteers and community groups to improve green spaces across the city
- Operating specialist equipment and ensuring work is carried out safely, sustainably and in accordance with environmental legislation
You will hold a full UK driving licence and possess a relevant qualification as well as
- practical experience in nature conservation, habitat management or environmental initiatives
- demonstrated interest in conservation, ecology or wildlife management
- understanding of key health and safety standards and their application in outdoor work environments
- strong practical competence and resilience in challenging environments with experience working in physically demanding and complex outdoor conditions
- ability to handle unplanned public enquiries
