Working 36.5 hours per week

We’re looking for an experienced Employee Relations Lead to join our Employee Relations team supporting the delivery of a high-quality, professional ER service across Birmingham City Council. This is a Manager role. 

Reporting to the Head of Employee Relations, you will lead a team of Employee Relations Consultants, ensuring the provision of legally sound, pragmatic and outcome-focused advice on a wide range of employee relations matters. You will also take ownership of complex, high-profile cases and play a key role in shaping ER strategy and policy.

About the role

You will:

  • Lead and manage a team delivering expert advice on:
    • Conduct and disciplinary matters
    • Capability and performance
    • Attendance management
    • Grievances
    • TUPE
  • Act as senior lead on complex and high-risk ER cases
  • Support major organisational projects (e.g. TUPE, redundancy, consultation)
  • Ensure consistent application of People Policies across the organisation
  • Develop strong partnerships with senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Drive performance, service quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Provide insights and reporting to inform strategic decision-making
  • Work collaboratively with legal advisors and manage external ER support where required

 

About you

You will bring:

  • Hold CIPD Level 7
  • Significant experience managing complex employee relations casework
  • Experience working in a unionised environment
  • Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to provide strategic advice and support
