Senior Application Support Engineer - Housing Sector

Grade D - £45,091 – £51,356

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Housing specialist with strong technical expertise in NEC Housing and associated systems. This is an opportunity to play a key role in supporting and evolving Birmingham City Council’s critical Housing and Property applications, working closely with both technical and functional teams to deliver reliable, high-quality digital services.

As a senior member of the Digital & Technology Services (DTS) Applications team, you will take ownership of a portfolio of business-critical systems, ensuring they remain stable, secure, and aligned to business needs. You will operate at a practitioner level within a live support environment, resolving complex issues, supporting integrations, and driving continuous improvement across the application estate.

Working closely with the Lead Application Support Engineer, DTS colleagues, business stakeholders, and suppliers, you will contribute to the ongoing development of services, ensuring they are resilient, well-supported, and capable of meeting future demand.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide practitioner-level application support for Housing and Property systems, including NEC Housing, Civica DM360 and associated platforms 
  • Diagnose and resolve complex application and integration issues, ensuring system stability, performance, and resilience 
  • Support and maintain integrations between systems, including batch processing, data flows, and interface management 
  • Lead on troubleshooting high-impact incidents and act as a point of escalation within the team 
  • Contribute to application upgrades, configuration changes, and continuous service improvement activities 
  • Work closely with business stakeholders, suppliers, and technical teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions 
  • Support the development of internal capability by sharing knowledge and mentoring less experienced colleagues 
  • Ensure applications meet security, data protection, and audit requirements 

Who Should Apply

  • Proven experience supporting NEC Housing in a complex environment 
  • Strong hands-on SQL experience, including scripting, reporting, and data analysis  
  • Experience supporting integrated application landscapes, including troubleshooting interfaces and data flows 
  • Experience working with document management or workflow systems such as Civica DM360 
  • Ability to resolve complex technical issues and identify root causes in a live support environment 
  • Experience working with business stakeholders and translating requirements into practical solutions 
  • Able to work independently, prioritise effectively, and operate in a high-pressure environment 

Desirable:

  • Experience supporting Repairs, Temporary Accommodation, or Allocations 
  • Experience working within local government or a similarly complex organisation
