Post qualifies for a £1000 golden handshake upon starting in the post plus a £5000 retention bonus after a successful 12 months with the service.

Birmingham City Council Children’s Occupational Therapy Service has an exciting opportunity to welcome a Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist into our expanding and ambitious team.
We are recruiting 1 x permanent full‑time Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist within the Children and Families Directorate.
The Children and Families Directorate at Birmingham City Council continues to grow, evolve and strengthen its services for children, young people and families. We are committed to delivering high‑quality, child‑centred support across the city, and this role plays a key part in that mission.
About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist who is ready to take the next step into a senior, specialist and leadership‑focused position. You will work directly with children and young people with a wide range of disabilities and complex health needs, supporting them in their homes, schools and communities across Birmingham.
As a Senior Practitioner Occupational Therapist, you will:
- Provide specialist clinical oversight and consultation to team members on complex, palliative and end‑of‑life cases.
- Hold a caseload of children and young people with consistently challenging or complex needs requiring advanced clinical reasoning.
- Lead on manual handling assessments, equipment provision, and urgent care support for palliative care pathways.
- Support the Team Manager with case allocation, service development, quality assurance and staff development.
- Supervise, mentor and support Occupational Therapists, newly qualified staff, students and unqualified team members.
- Contribute to service improvement, evidence‑based practice, research dissemination and professional development across the team.
- Work collaboratively with Social Care, Health, Education and external partners to deliver integrated, timely and effective support for families.
