About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Manager to join the Product function within the Digital & Customer Services Division at Birmingham City Council, supporting the delivery of high‑quality digital products and services that make a real difference for residents, businesses and colleagues.
This role is ideal for a senior product practitioner who enjoys working on complex or high‑impact products, leading multidisciplinary teams, and helping organisations adopt user‑centred, outcome‑focused ways of working.
As part of Digital and Technology Services, you will contribute to our wider product mission and play an important role in strengthening product capability across the organisation. You will work closely with colleagues across services, platforms, design, data and technology to ensure our products deliver value, are accessible and inclusive, and represent good value for money.
Alongside delivery, this role has a strong coaching and culture‑building element. You will help embed product thinking, agile practices and evidence‑based decision‑making, supporting others to adopt modern digital approaches.
This is a hybrid role, and onsite attendance is subject to service needs
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the vision, strategy, priorities and roadmap for complex digital products or services.
- Providing day‑to‑day product leadership to multidisciplinary teams, enabling them to deliver outcomes that meet genuine user needs.
- Working with stakeholders across the organisation to understand priorities, manage dependencies and translate needs into clear, prioritised outcomes.
- Using qualitative and quantitative data to inform decisions, measure value and continuously improve product performance.
- Championing user‑centred, accessible and inclusive design across all stages of delivery.
- Applying agile ways of working to create an environment of learning, iteration and continuous improvement.
- Supporting the growth of the product community by sharing knowledge, coaching others and leading by example.
- Acting as a role model for our values, behaviours and product ways of working.
About You
This opportunity is well suited to someone with strong product management experience who is motivated by public service and solving complex problems at scale.
The ideal candidate will have proven experience of leading digital products in multidisciplinary environments, confidence working with data and evidence, and the ability to balance user needs, organisational priorities and technical considerations. You’ll be an effective communicator and influencer, comfortable engaging a wide range of stakeholders and supporting teams to do their best work.
Above all, you’ll share our commitment to building accessible, inclusive and user‑centred public services, and to using technology responsibly to deliver positive outcomes.
Why Join Us?
- Work on digital products that directly improve services for Birmingham’s residents and communities.
- Collaborate with skilled multidisciplinary teams across design, data and technology.
- Influence how product thinking and user‑centred design are embedded across a large organisation.
- Develop your career in a supportive environment focused on learning and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the transformation of digital services in local government.
