Be Part of Birmingham’s Transformation, Join the Commissioners Support Unit

This is your chance to join the Commissioners Support Unit, providing critical business and governance support at the heart of the council’s improvement journey.

A Once‑in‑a‑Career Opportunity

We are recruiting an acting up Business Support Coordinator for an initial period of 4 months. Offering a unique chance to work directly with senior leaders from government and from within the council.

This role is fast‑paced, high‑profile and unlike anything else currently available across the council. You will be helping to lead the reports activity currently underway.  Commissioners are required to review all reports within a certain timeframe so the pace is fast but it’s a very rewarding role.  You will be networking with Central Government and all levels of officers within the Council.

Why This Team? Why Now?

You will be part of a small, dynamic team helping to shape the future of the largest local authority in Europe.
No two days will be the same. You will:

  • Work closely with Commissioners and Chiefs of Staff
  • Liaise directly with political and executive leaders
  • Play a pivotal role in keeping operations running smoothly
  • Operate in an environment where professionalism, discretion and integrity are essential
  • Help drive real, visible change across the organisation

To thrive here, you’ll need to be organised, proactive, flexible and ready to take on challenges head‑on.

Where You’ll Be Working

You will work one day per week in the Council House and may be expected to come in an additional day when required, working alongside Commissioners. This is a rare opportunity to build strong professional relationships with senior stakeholders at the centre of decision‑making.

If you’re excited by the chance to help steer a major transformation and be part of something truly impactful, we want to hear from you.
