Teacher – Adult Skills Programmes (Salaried) 

Permanent

Grade B - £28,598 - £33,699 

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review 

Working 36.5 hours per week – Friday non-teaching day

Birmingham Adult Education Service (BAES) is looking for experienced teachers of English literacy from Entry 2 to Level 2 for the academic year 26/27 to ensure that English learners have the best possible experience, achieve the best outcomes and are well prepared for their next steps. Teachers with English Functional Skills, GCSE or ESOL teaching experience and qualifications will be considered.

Locations: Library of Birmingham, Saltley, Sparkhill, Aston, Erdington, Northfield

Successful candidates will be able to

  • Plan and deliver high quality learner-centred teaching, learning and assessment which meets learners’ needs, especially additional support needs and stretch and challenge
  • Demonstrate a successful track record of impactful English delivery
  • Provide advice guidance and support to ensure that learners achieve their long-term goals 
  • Contribute to the development of schemes of work and teaching materials
  • Share and promote good practice 
  • Contribute to internal quality assurance of accreditation
  • Carry out initial assessment as part of Admissions in the months leading up to September

Qualifications: 

  • A teaching qualification at a minimum of Level 5, e.g. DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE, IRR.
  • An appropriate Subject Specialist qualification at a minimum of Level 3 or equivalent commercial experience/expertise in areas of shortage. If this is not held, gaining it within two years of appointment may be specified as a condition of employment in the letter of appointment. 
  • A minimum of a Level 2 (GCSE 9 - 4 or equivalent) English and Maths
