The Role

Birmingham is in an unprecedented period of transformational change.  As a consequence of the City’s economic growth, regeneration and transformation there has been a significant increase in street works activity on our highway network. It is anticipated that there will be further major utility works, new developments, and transportation projects over the coming years in order to accommodate future growth.

The successful candidate will become an integral part of the Network Management and Highway Approvals Team.   They will assist the Senior Network Managers in the delivery of a coordinated, planned and effective response to the Network Management Duty across the whole organisation as contained within the requirements of the Traffic Management Act 2004. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the following legislation New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and The Highways Act 1980; and take a lead role in ensuring that the Highway Approvals Officers and Network Inspectors are performing to the required standard.

The postholder will report to one of the teams Senior Network Managers. They will provide trusted guidance and advice in relation to street works coordination.  They will manage a team of Highways Approvals Officers and Network Inspectors and ensure that effective operation of Birmingham’s Permit Scheme.

We require someone with a strong understanding of how to manage complex stakeholders and oversee approvals on a complex Highway Network. Who is also confident enough to work in a high-profile organisation.

You will be vital in ensuring the effective management of Birmingham’s highway network; therefore, you will need to be authoritative and confident.  You have a keen eye for detail, understand the importance of process and have the ability to manage and negotiate effectively.
