Golden Hello & Retention Payments:
Eligible candidates may receive a £1,000 Golden Hello on appointment, plus a retention payment of up to £5,000 per annum, subject to eligibility criteria and terms and conditions

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Practitioner Post in the Staying Independent at Home Team, working with adults and children with physical and mental health impairments which impact on their ability to access essential facilities in their home . The team supports with the processing of Disabled Facilities Grants ( DFG)  and working closely with our lead provider to design suitable adaptations for citizen's that are eligible. 

A Senior Practitioner post within Birmingham City Council involves: a lead role in delivering adaptations to citizen's of Birmingham and managing a complex caseload. This role will often involve providing technical expertise, coaching, and mentoring other members of the team, as well as ensuring adherence to legislation, standards, and departmental policies.

Key Responsibilities

-Lead on the assessment, recommendation, and delivery of complex housing adaptations and Disabled Facilities Grants
-Manage a complex caseload, ensuring timely, high‑quality, and legally compliant outcomes for citizens
-Provide specialist technical expertise to support adaptation design and delivery
-Coach, mentor, and support practitioners within the team, promoting best practice and professional development
-Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards, and departmental policies
-Work collaboratively with internal teams, external partners, contractors, and the lead provider to achieve effective outcomes
-Contribute to service improvement, quality assurance, and the development of efficient ways of working


We are looking for an organised, dependable, and motivated professional who is committed to promoting independence and delivering high‑quality, person‑centred services.
You will have:

-Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Occupational Therapist or equivalent
-Experience of working in Housing and Adaptations, including Disabled Facilities Grants
-Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and professional practice
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with citizens, colleagues, and partners 
-A team player who is positive, flexible, and has a proactive approach, with the confidence to support, guide others and be self-motivated
-The ability to manage complexity, prioritise effectively, and maintain high professional standards
