Internal Audit Apprentice
London Borough of Bexley
About The Role
Internal Audit’s job is to make sure our risk management, governance and internal controls are best in class. We’re here to help ensure the Council services are as good as they can be and serve the residents and other stakeholder as best we can.
That means spotting risks before they become problems, making recommendations that matter, and helping keep the Council fair, trusted and future‑proof. This is a great opportunity to start your career as an internal audit professional. You will be an integral part of the internal audit and wider assurance team and be fully supported in undertaking an internal audit qualification to progress in the internal audit profession.
As an Internal Auditor, you will play a key role to influence how the Council improves its risk management and internal control process, being a key influencer for services. Working as part of the Internal Audit Team, you will support the delivery of the Council's internal audit programme, ensuring adequate controls are in place across Council departments including areas such as the management of assets, adequate oversight and supervision, strong financial management and compliance with the law and local policies and procedures.
You will support the Internal Audit Manager and work with the rest of the Internal Audit team, helping to ensure the Council delivers its internal audit plan and provides helpful insights into service improvement. This will include developing internal audit terms of reference, documenting risks and controls, gathering information to understand key processes including interviewing officers from all levels of the Council as well as external service providers and stakeholders, draw conclusions as to systems adequacy and draft internal audit reports for quality review by the Internal Audit Manager
In this role you will be comfortable in an office setting and enjoy connecting with people whether that’s face-to-face, over email or on Teams. You have an enquiring mind, like digging into a wide range of new topics, spotting patterns and finding examples of best practice that others can learn from.
This is an initial three year contract with the opportunity to progress based on performance and achieving the assigned qualifications. Our vision is that you progress to a permanent role as a qualified internal auditor.
Please note that the successful candidate will be required to be office based at least 2/3 days a week.
