Basildon Borough Council is embarking on an ambitious transformation journey, driven by our Corporate Plan and the belief that every resident deserves to live in a safe, thriving, and high‑quality environment. Our focus remains firmly on strengthening communities, creating opportunities, and delivering high‑quality public services.

About the Role

The borough of Basildon is alive with opportunity and has the ingredients to be one of the most successful and desirable places in the South East. As the largest economy in the Thames Estuary outside London, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved but we are never complacent. We are driving inclusive, sustainable growth to provide opportunity and prosperity for local people and businesses, access to quality homes, vibrant town centres and an enhanced local environment.

This exciting post is within the council’s planning enforcement team which is an important part of the wider planning service. You will be working with friendly and supportive colleagues and will be involved in investigating and resolving breaches of planning control. All development requires planning permission and it is the role of the planning enforcement team to investigate where development has taken place without the necessary permission and take appropriate action to remedy the breach, either through a negotiated solution or by formal enforcement action.

You may also have opportunity to work across the wider planning function of the Council including development management and planning policy. As a strong communicator, verbal and written, you may undertake all areas of planning for the local authority, including attending developer meetings and planning committees.

Decisiveness and ambition for our borough are key qualities in this role so that you discharge our important statutory functions, play a key role in advising on and facilitating effective service delivery.

The post is a career development scheme which offers progression and development opportunities. The pay band and level of training that is undertaken will be dependent on the successful candidate’s experience and education level.  The successful candidate must be committed to securing qualifications and to acquire the necessary technical knowledge to undertake the duties of this post.

If you would like to be part of Basildon’s success, we look forward to receiving your application. For an informal discussion please contact Ian Cummings on 01268 206753.
