ROLE: Non-Executive Director

COMPANY: Sempra Homes Limited

RENUMERATION: £5,000 per annum

TERM: Three years (reviewable on an annual basis)

RESPONSIBLE TO: Sempra Homes Chair supported by Company Secretary

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Jointly responsible for the overall effectiveness of Sempra Homes’ development and delivery of the Company’s business plan.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS: Sempra Homes Board meetings, working groups and other briefings as required.

TIME COMMITMENT: One to two days a month

Sempra Homes Limited is Basildon Council’s wholly owned, award-winning, subsidiary housing development company. The company’s primary purpose is to provide homes for local residents through a range of different types of housing and tenure and generate a financial return to the Council as its sole shareholder.

The company was incorporated in 2014 and has a successful track record of delivery. It continues to develop and is at an exciting key point to review its long-term business and financial strategies and develop a pipeline of housing for delivery over the next five years across the Basildon borough and wider Essex area subject to Local Government Reform . The company’s objectives will be revised as part of the company’s new strategic business plan and currently are to:

Optimise the shareholder’s financial returns;
Maintain control of design and density of schemes and where possible achieve low-cost energy use by design;
Grow the portfolio over the next 5 years by a minimum of 10% per year;
Contribute to the development of a diverse housing offer for borough residents;
Encourage economic activity using local business and supply chains and provide borough residents with training and learning opportunities through apprenticeships.

As Sempra grows its programme for the next five years, the Board needs to supplement its existing membership with external expertise, challenge and oversight, to ensure Sempra continues to flourish and is seeking 3 x Board Members with Legal and/or Finance and Audit sector expertise.

There is also the opportunity for one of these roles to take on the Company Chair person role.

MAIN PURPOSE

The Board Member will work with the Chairman and Service Lead for Sempra to further develop the overall strategic direction of Sempra Homes; developing and committing to its mission, vision and strategic objectives; and ensuring the business’ continuing financial viability.
