Basildon Borough Council is embarking on an ambitious transformation journey, driven by our Corporate Plan and the belief that every resident deserves to live in a safe, thriving, and high‑quality environment. Our focus remains firmly on strengthening communities, creating opportunities, and delivering high‑quality public services.
About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Social Media Officer.
As our Social Media Officer you will sit at the heart of Basildon Council’s communications team, leading how we talk to residents, businesses and local partners every day.
From elections and events to local services and success stories, you will create compelling, current content across our digital channels, including video. You will be part of a creative communications team, keeping an eye on what discussions are happening online and making sure the council is visible, trusted and part of the conversation.
About what we are looking for
Are you the kind of person who scrolls social media not just for fun, but to spot trends, formats and moments that make people stop, think and click?
Do captions and comments come naturally to you, and do you know how to turn a message into something people actually want to engage with?
This is not a starter role. We are looking for someone with proven experience managing social media channels for an organisation, building engagement and handling community management with confidence and care. You will be organised, creatively sharp and comfortable jumping between platforms, campaigns and priorities and confident using a DSLR camera and/or Smart phone cameras and editing the footage.
If you have hands on experience running social channels, scheduling content and creating eye catching visuals using Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud, this might be the role for you.
If you are serious about digital storytelling, know your analytics from your algorithms, and want your work to make a real impact for the people of Bas, we would love to hear from you.
Please see attached the Job Description and Person Specification.
If you would like to be part of Basildon’s success, please attach and submit your CV and covering letter detailing how you demonstrate the requirements of the role.
We look forward to receiving your application.
