Location: Basildon Centre – minimum office attendance 2 days per week

Contract Type and Hours: 2 Year Fixed Term / 36.25 hrs

Basildon Borough Council is looking for a talented and motivated GIS Officer to join our Planning Service and play a key role in developing and maintaining our corporate geospatial capability.

About the Role

In this role, you'll help ensure our GIS systems and spatial data remain a valuable corporate resource, supporting everything from planning and regeneration projects to cross-departmental collaboration and service improvement.

As GIS Officer, you will provide a comprehensive geospatial service that supports the Council's strategic objectives and GIS/Data Strategy. You'll work across a wide range of GIS and data management activities, helping to maintain accurate spatial datasets, deliver high-quality mapping and analysis, and support innovative GIS applications used across the organisation.

About what/ who we are looking for

We're looking for someone with:

  • Excellent GIS knowledge and practical experience.
  • A strong understanding of data management principles and geospatial technologies.
  • Experience using GIS tools and working with spatial datasets.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • A degree-level qualification or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience within a Local Authority, planning environment, consultancy, government agency or similar technical setting would be advantageous.
