This is an exciting opportunity to join the Health Protection Team to support the Public Health Principal in the delivery of Health Protection and Emergency Planning functions. The postholder will contribute to the assessment of population health risks, coordinate responses to communicable disease incidents, and implement evidence-based interventions in line with national guidance and local priorities. They will provide Public Health operational delivery of Health Protection and support the Director of Public Health to deliver on emergency planning and assurance activities. This will include vaccination responsibilities, advice and guidance to care homes, schools and other local organisations, and translation of national plans and guidance into local plans and protocols, and implementation of plans in emergency situations. In addition, they will provide outbreak support, epidemic and pandemic planning, and adverse weather planning. The role is based within the Public Health Team and will work closely within and outside of the Public Health Team – includes Education, Adult Social Care, NEL ICB, Vaccination UKHSA, primary care and VCSE.
Special requirements for this post
A degree level qualification or equivalent experience in related discipline is essential for this role, and relevant CPD in Health Protection desirable. Demonstrated experience of delivering in a health protection role within a public health team or setting, writing and training on plans to protect public health, and providing specialised advice to other council departments and partners on evidence-based policy in respect of health protection activities and evidence-based practices. In addition, you will have excellent communications skills, both oral and written with experience of managing and delivering operational projects (with fast moving deadlines), and the ability of making and maintaining productive professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including NHS, UKHSA and social care professionals). You will demonstrate the ability to think creatively to adapt to the diverse needs of population.

You will be innovative, self-motivated and a confident influencer with sound political judgement; have strong organisational skills and be a very strong team player. You will have a strong track record of delivering projects, managing your time effectively and flexibly, and producing quality work to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will have excellent analytical skills, ability to problem solve and be motivated by delivering robust evidence to inform action. You must be able to work collaboratively and successfully with partners in other council departments and external organisations.
