Our well-established and highly regarded job brokerage service is seeking a dedicated professional with strong experience in supported employment to work on our Connect to Work programme. B&D Works (formerly known as the Job Shop) provides employment advice, training, and job opportunities to local people looking for work. We are recruiting a Job Broker who can deliver lifechanging employment support for people with health conditions/disabilities and from disadvantaged groups. As a Job Broker, you will play a vital role in transforming the lives of the individuals you support, while contributing to a fairer and more inclusive society. About you
As a Job Broker within the Health & Emplpyment Team, you will assist and support clients with Autism and Learning Disabilities, Neuridiverse conditions and other barriers in sourcing appropriate competitive and meaningful paid employment opportunities in line with their personalised plans. This is an opportunity to offer hands-on support, to give people the tools they need to flourish and ultimately, to transform lives.
You will demonstrate empathy, compassion, and a holistic approach to supporting people in achieving individual employment goals. You will be required to manage a caseload of approximately 25 people at any time and work directly with all relevant stakeholders. You will have a combination of skills: the ability to empathise with clients; the resilience and determination to seek out job opportunities; the communication skills to engage employers and change perceptions around Autism and learning disabilities. You will work as part of a team in our Supported Employment Programme within our Employment & Health Team. Together with your colleagues, you will help coordinate support functions, enabling our front-line teams to focus on providing services to vulnerable adults who rely on us. You must be highly organised and able to think on your feet - thriving without close direction. We need a skilled communicator who can deal directly with residents, partners and senior colleagues. Someone who can build cross-organisational relationships and bring innovative solutions to get work done. You will also need a sensitive approach when dealing with some of the confidential matters involved in our work. Employment and Skills sits within the Council’s Inclusive Growth directorate, which works to remove social and economic barriers to ensure all residents can benefit from growth in the borough. Challenges such as poverty, homelessness, environmental issues, and unemployment can significantly affect individuals and families, and we aim to reduce these pressures through targeted support. B&D Works is the Council’s free employment service for Barking & Dagenham residents. Our mission is to help people improve their skills, expand their career options, and access tailored support either online or in person at our two community Job Shops.
