<p>We’re seeking a <strong>GIS Technical Systems Officer</strong> to join our team and help deliver cutting-edge geospatial services across LBBD. Reporting to the GIS Senior Technical System Administrator, you’ll be responsible for ensuring our ESRI-based GIS infrastructure runs smoothly, securely, and efficiently — supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic projects.</p> <p>You’ll work with modern technologies including <strong>ArcGIS Online, ArcServer, and Azure-hosted geodatabases</strong>, managing data flows from internally curated datasets to external sources such as Ordnance Survey.</p> <p>What You’ll Do</p> <ul> <li>Maintain and support LBBD’s ESRI GIS platforms, including Azure geodatabases, ArcServer deployments, and ArcGIS Online integrations.</li> <li>Manage complex data pipelines across the Council, ensuring integrity, security, and performance.</li> <li>Act as the technical point of contact for BAU support and project delivery.</li> <li>Provide product management insight, advising stakeholders on GIS technical matters.</li> <li>Install client software and resolve first- and second-line user issues.</li> <li>Drive continuous improvement and innovation in GIS operations.</li> </ul>

Special requirements for this post

<p>A basic DBS Check is required. This is a hybrid working role and all employees are expected to be in the office at least 3 days a week.</p>

About you

<p>In IT Services we strive to build high performing teams which can only be achieved by having the right people onboard. You’ll bring strong technical knowledge of the ESRI platform and related geospatial tools. Ideally, you will have experience in:</p> <ul> <li>ArcGIS Online – managing web maps, apps, and services for internal and external stakeholders.</li> <li>ArcServer deployments – publishing and maintaining map services, managing server configuration, overseeing patching cycles, and leading upgrade projects to ensure secure, scalable, and high-performing deployments.</li> <li>Azure geodatabases – administering cloud-based spatial databases, maintaining integrity, performance, and scalability.</li> <li>ArcGIS Pro – advanced desktop GIS analysis, data editing, and cartographic production.</li> <li>FME (Feature Manipulation Engine) – automating complex data workflows, integrating multiple formats, and streamlining data processing.</li> <li>Ordnance Survey datasets – incorporating and refreshing external datasets alongside internally managed data.</li> <li>Spatial data management – ensuring stability, security, and accessibility of GIS data across the Council.</li> <li>Front-end integration – connecting back-end systems with user-facing applications to deliver intuitive GIS solutions.</li> </ul> <p>Our DRIVE values are the guiding principles and standards that we want every Barking and Dagenham Council employee to bring to their working life every day.
