About this job

As the Cabinet Support Officer, you will be working at the beating heart of the council supporting the Leader of the Council and Cabinet Members deliver their priorities and making a vital contribution to the wider objectives of the council.

You will part of a small team working collaboratively on a range of communications, policy, and public affairs (including lobbying) initiatives and campaigns. You will help develop narratives, draft articles that capture portfolio priorities, briefings and speeches as well as helping coordinate the Leader of the Council and Cabinet Members’ movements and contributing to the Chief Executive’s projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an administration as it embarks on a new phase and help shape the future of the borough. Local government experience is not essential but enthusiasm and a desire to support the work of politicians is key to success in this role.

About you

You will have a flair for writing and thinking creatively, as well as proactively pursuing projects to their conclusion alongside colleagues with the minimum of supervision.

As part of this you will be able to multi-task, meet deadlines, as well as work with a wide range of people including senior members of staff, and possess an interest in the democratic functions of the council.

Additional Information

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview on Thursday 2 July at Barking Town Hall. A written test will form part of the assessment and will take place immediately prior to the interview. The interview and test will each last no longer than 45 minutes.
